NATIONAL CHAMPIONS !!!

On Nov. 18, 2006, the Middlebury College Women's Cross Country team won the NCAA Div. 3 Women's Cross Country Championships by one point, the smallest margin of victory in the meet's history. In a total field of 280 runners, Middelbury placed five runners in the top 68 scoring 144 points. Three Middlebury runners, Alexandra Krieg, 10th, Andrea Giddings, 25th, and Erin Archard, 29th, earned All-American status by finishing in the top 35. The victory marked the fourth national title in the last seven years for the Panthers.

The race was run in the most difficult rfunning conditions most coaches had ever seen. Due to substantial rain prior to the race, the couse had standing water in many places and the mud throughout the course was four to six inches deep. The Panthers were tough however and had the strength to carry them to victory.
